Building Bridges Through Authentic Interactions

“Cross-Cultural Connections Modules” – for people who are new to volunteering.

Volunteering in Canada – a great way to Belong!

Waterloo Region is a diverse community with a vibrant cultural history and future!

Research shows a strong link between belonging and well-being.[1]  According to the 2016 National Vital Signs Report, “the more we get involved in the community, the more we feel like we belong.”[2] For newcomers and or non-newcomers, volunteering can be a great way to get involved and create your own sense of belonging.

Volunteering can be a powerful vehicle for personal development. Volunteering connects people to communities. Volunteering can provide you with an opportunity to showcase your skills, develop new skills, gain Canadian experience for your resume. Through volunteering, you can develop meaningful connections with people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds – including your own!

When you volunteer, your experiences will provide you with many ways to interact with people who are all working towards creating a better community either through a nonprofit or charitable organizations (formal) or informal networks around you and your family (schools, churches etc.)

With that in mind, these fun and interactive “Cross-Cultural Connections Modules” have been designed to help you get the most from your experience and connect positively in a new environment.
